Photo booth on the seafront at Porthcawl. When I photographed this I was trying to get three elements – the image of the bearded man on the side, the booth itself and then the reflection in the mirror outside. I first tried focusing on the reflection, then the details of the booth, these two pictures show both attempts.
In this self-portrait I am to some extent expressing a long held but never fulfilled wish. I had always wanted to be a dancer, but as I had never attended ballet or any other dance class as a child it seemed impossible to pursue. This is one of two pictures taken during the same session. Mirrors often figure as motifs in both paintings and photographs – as here offering two perspectives on the same subject.
